Route Details

Day One 50 miles

Starting at the Historic Castle Rising we pass through the grounds of Sandringham Hall before arriving at the historic market town of Burnham Market. We then pass through Burnham Thorpe the birth place of Horatio Nelson before reaching the splendour of Holkham Hall. A cycle route through the pine forests of Holkham delivers us to the unspoilt beach and the quaint port of Wells. A further off road route allows us spectacular views of the creeks and the coast all the way to Stiffkey We turn inland for a few miles before arriving at the gem which is Blakeney. The creeks and estuary surrounded by the vast marshes of sea lavender is home to a huge variety of wildlife- a dally for a while is a must! A short cycle will then bring us to our overnight accommodation on the edge of Kelling Heath.

Day Two 45 Miles

From the hotel we are immediately on a bridleway over the fantastic Kelling Heath. We will pass through the conservation centre before picking up the railway path at the side of the North Norfolk Steam railway line. We will pass by the Kelling and Weybourne stations with their collection of steam engines before reaching the national trust woodland above Sheringham. A climb up to the Gazebo view point affords great coastal views. We then drop down over the main road on to the cliff top path with a climb up to the life boat house before a gentle ride along the promenade. Depending on the tides the opportunity to ride along the beach to West Runton will be a must. Heading inland we skirt around the National Trust Felbrigg Hall before heading back to the coast at Cromer - famous for the Cromer crabs. We now enter the quiet lanes- a network of routes designated by the Norfolk County Council as being especially suitable for cyclists. We follow the quiet lanes through several idyllic Norfolk villages before another foray to the coast, this time to the seaside village of Mundesley. We head out of Mundesley passing Stow windmill to our next stop at Bacton woods. We continue south, to eventually pick up the Weavers Way; this section of the famous long distance footpath is an old railway line which is rideable. This delivers us conveniently to our overnight stop for the evening on the edge of the broads at Wayford Bridge.

Day Three 50 miles

Today will be a day in the broads, before heading into the city of Norwich. The day will start by cycling to Barton Turf. A specially built boardwalk takes you on a journey through ancient woodland to a viewing platform at the end; here the view over Barton Broad is spectacular. We cycle to view the boards at Irstead, then the bustling boating mecca of Horning, before heading on to the picturesque village and a lovely riverside stop at Coltishall. We will then have some off road cycling on the the Bure Valley railway track from Coltisall to Wroxham, known as the capital of the Broads. Lunch will be taken at Ranworth broad and then onto South Walsham. From here we head west and journey to Norwich. We enter Norwich by Mousehole Heath stopping at the viewpoint which affords great views across this famous city. We then tour the “must sees” in the city followed by the possibility of a pint by the riverside. We then head to our accommodation at the Wensum Country Club situated just off the traffic free Marriotts Way, 6 mile from the city.

Day Four 50 miles

We leave Wensum and after a few miles of country lanes we rejoin the Marriotts Way and follow it to the pleasant village of Reepham. We then follow route 1 which is all on very quiet country lanes before joining route 13 to Greesenhall which is a famous Norfolk living museum. This will be our lunch stop by the river. We then continue to the interesting and historic town of Castle Acre with its unique castle and Abbey. At Castle Acre we join the Peddars Way which allows some enjoyable off road riding almost all the way back to Castle Rising

That was Norfolk!
