Frequently Asked Questions

If we addressed your questions in the answers below please feel free to call us or e mail.

Will I be fit enough?

This seems to be the issue that causes the most anxiety. All our routes are planned to be enjoyed and achievable, however a certain amount of fitness is required. Where the routes are hilly and demand a higher degree of fitness then this is indicated on the tour description. We also adjust the mileage to take account of more demanding terrain. If in doubt please talk to us. As UK Athletic endurance coaches we will be able to advise you and if necessary recommend a pre tour fitness plan.

What happens if I can't keep up with the Group?

We both ride as cycle guides- Reg usually at the front and Karen bringing up the rear so cyclists can cycle at their own pace between the front and back markers. All cyclists are provided with detailed route instructions and maps and further instructions are given at each stop. In practice we find the maps are rarely used as there is always someone to cycle with and chat to and always the reassurance if you loose sight of the group Karen will be along as back marker to point you in the right direction.

Are there regular stops?

The support van is never more than 10Km away and regular sightings of the van are built in for any water refills or change of clothes. Karen and Reg also carry panniers on their bikes for any clothes changes on route. We have a midmorning, mid afternoon and lunch stop. The stops are a time to keep those sugar levels topped up with home made cakes, tea and coffee and fresh fruit as well as the selection of juices and energy drinks. Lunches usually are sandwiches or decadent chip butties. The stops try to be at places of particular interest with the necessary toilet facilities. Some tours eg the C2C include lunch at the Parkhead cafe.

How tricky are the off road sections?

We ride all our routes and exclude any off road sections that we feel may be problematic. Where short stretches of tricky off road sections cannot be avoided then you will always find Karen walking! We generally however only use unsurfaced cycle paths if they are suitable for cycles with narrow tyres

What sort of bike should I use?

We use touring bikes but we also use our mountain bikes with slick tyres. We would alwys recommend comfort rather than speed as our tours are not about how quick you can complete the day.

What if I have a problem with my bike or feel unwell?

If you have a problem with your bike Reg carries cycle first aid spares for example, puncture repair and spare innertubes. If more work is required the support van will be hailed and a further repair carried out. In the event of a major repair being required then spare bikes (Trek 4500) are carried on the support van. If you feel at all unwell during the trip, we have one or two spare seats in the support van. Anything more serious and obviously the appropriate support and action will be taken.

What Happens in the Evenings?

We always advise cyclists to leave their dinner jackets and evening dresses at home! (no jokes). The evenings are a great time to exchange stories about the day gone by and stories from the past. We usually eat about 8pm at a ,local pub which offers variety for all. The evening can sometimes go on into the wee hours but all in the best possible taste!

What about the accommodation

We feel this is an important part of your holiday and always try to secure accommodation which is good quality and cycle friendly. This can be challenging due to the numbers in the group and how promptly we are given confirmation of your commitment to join the ride. We are delighted to have already obtained provisional accommodation for all our 2010 tours at excellent accommodation. The room occupation basis is usually on a twin format but can sometimes be on a single occupancy format depending on the accommodation, If you specifically require a single room please let us know at the time of booking. It may be necessary to pass on a supplement for this- once again depending on the accommodation.

Transport

We are based in Worksop so all our tours leave and return to Worksop. Bespoke group tours will leave from the location arranged. The cost of the tour includes travel to and from the start and finish and also transportation for your cycle. All luggage transfers during the tour are catered for by the support van.
